Translating Your Mission's Message: Four Keys for Your Mobile Exhibit

When planning a mobile outreach tour for your nonprofit or organization, there are a few things to keep in mind in order to best utilize the space within the trailer and convey your mission’s message clearly. Here are four key things to keep in mind to maximize your messages impact and translate your organization’s mission.

Prioritize Your Messaging – Focusing on messaging priority will help guide the overall flow of communication through your experience.  The key is to make sure the visitor take-away is exactly what you intended.

The Right Trailer to House Your Experience – The right trailer will weigh considerably on the overall effectiveness of your program. Too small and the experience is compromised and too large and you lose cost efficiency.  Determining trailer size should factor three things; expected visitor throughput, desired exhibitory to convey your message and provide interactivity with guests, and ancillary functionality (e.g. educational classroom settings or counseling centers).

Story Telling – Think of your event trailer as a story telling tour.  By creating flow to your exhibitory, guests will typically move in the direction of the story and increase the likelihood of message take-away.  It will also decrease the time visitors spend “floating” throughout the trailer and create an opportunity for more guests to participate with less wait times.

Visual Stimulation – Always remember that you’re creating an immersive experience.  It’s one of few opportunities to deliver your message to an audience unencumbered by outside noise.  So, wow them.  Engage them.  Allow them to interact with your messaging and you’ll create an experience they’ll never forget.
